Top Soft Skills Sought By Talent Professionals

In a LinkedIn survey highlighted by INC.com, an astounding 57 percent of business leaders stated soft skills are valued more than hard skills.

What are soft skills?

Soft skills are considered those non-technical personal abilities an individual possesses, at some level, which influences mental faculties such as self-management, decision making, and morality, as well as interpersonal skills or personal sociability. But the key question on the minds of job seekers is, which of these soft skills are sought out the most? Let’s examine this.

Interpersonal Skills or Internal Abilities

Interpersonal skills are those internal abilities an individual possesses that contribute to self and time management, decision making, critical and creative thinking, and others. According to talent professionals and hiring managers, the top interpersonal soft skills include:

  • Adaptability
  • Time management
  • Critical thinking/problem-solving
  • Creativity

These skills are indispensable and can be considered stand out qualities which can gain the attention of hiring businesses. Therefore, no matter if you’re a recent college graduate or are striving to move forward in your career, it would be wise to develop or hone in on these internal soft skills.

Social Soft Skills

Social soft skills are the personal qualities that candidates have acquired through education, training and job experience. The buzzword  skill which has been in the professional arena for some time now is Emotional Intelligence (EI). This could be considered the gateway skill which connects self-awareness in regards to a range of personal emotions and how this awareness can positively affect interpersonal relationships and communication. This one skill could be considered part of the foundation for other social soft skills. It’s not only a buzzword skill, but considered one of the desired soft skills of employers which also includes:

  • Verbal and Written Communication
  • Nonverbal Communication
  • Listening
  • Empathy

These skills, like the interpersonal or internal abilities, should be recognized and practiced for your personal betterment and ready for exhibition when that recruiter calls you to set up an interview.
