Are Your Social Media Accounts Interview Ready?

 

You have prepared for your interview and you know you are a qualified candidate for this position, but have you made sure your social networking footprint will not have a negative impact on your chances of landing this job? Social media plays a huge role in today’s society; it is a fantastic way to connect with friends, family, local groups, and so on, but it can also be very telling of a person’s assets and liabilities. It is always good to double check that your accounts reflect your resume and interview personality. 

What Employers See

  • Education and Previous Employers
    • Make sure the information on your social media page matches your resume. It will be reassuring for the interviewer to see that you have not embellished or fabricated your credentials. This is important because you do not want to look deceiving in any way. Be honest, even if you did not get a degree in the field you are interviewing for or you were not the lead at your previous position. Your interview will be your opportunity to show you are more than what you put down in your resume. Honesty can show an employer that you are reliable and trustworthy. 
  • Positive or Negative Posts
    • Social media gives you the opportunity to express yourself on both good and bad days, but it is best to keep it light and airy if it is available for everyone to see. A negative social media presence can portray the idea that you may not be easy for other employees to work with. Instead of posting your woes, find something to be grateful for in your day to day life and share it with your friends. Employers know that things will not always be peachy, but it is nice for them to know that you can make lemonade with a sack of lemons. 
  • Photos
    • Photographs are a great way to keep people updated on what is happening in your life, without having to say too much. Having said that, photos of drinking, partying, inappropriate clothing, or anything that could possibly cause issues in a work setting should be removed. Your college party photo album probably needs to come down, but photos of you volunteering, or spending time with your family could help someone relate to your life and set you apart from other applicants.

Social media can make or break your opportunity to lock in the position. Employers want to see that you can be levelheaded and appropriate as an employee, so make sure that you are projecting the right internet presence for the job. Use your best judgment to reassess your different accounts, and be positive that you are starting with your best foot forward.

Basketball! I was fortunate enough to play college basketball all 4 years and in 2013 we won the NCAA DII National Championship.

Getting to know prospective franchise buyers. I love hearing about their goals and dreams they want to achieve through entrepreneurship.

What is your favorite color?

Orange! Yes, it is one of Nextaff’s main colors but it was my favorite before coming to Nextaff. In the franchising world, I’m known as “Orange pants guy”.
