Thriving In 2020 – 5 Ways You Can Crush Your Career Goals This Year

We’re a month into 2020 and we’re ready to crush it. You don’t have to give up your New Year’s resolutions just because it’s February. In fact, now is the time to double down on them.

There are plenty of ways you can thrive in 2020 by setting up your career goals and crushing them throughout the year. Here are a few steps you can take today to start achieving your goals this year.

Assess Where You Are

What are your goals for your career? It’s great to know those, but you can’t know how to get there if you don’t know where you are now. Once you know what your career goals are, it’s time to assess where you are now. Is your current job on the path to your future career goals? Is there something else you should be doing? What changes can you make right now to get closer?

Establish Time Management

Time management is about more than just setting yourself a deadline to reach a goal. There are plenty of things that you can do right now that will help you better manage your time to achieve your goals when you want to. Set aside time for career planning. Make sure you take time for yourself, too. All work and no play can really negatively affect your long-term goals.

Network, Network, Network

This is also the time to build your network. The more people you know in your field or who have experienced what you want to do, the better off you’ll be. Challenge yourself to get out to an event this month. Set up face-to-face meetings with people you’ve met to talk about what they do and how they can help you. Be helpful as well. Networking is a give and take.

Reevaluate and Make Changes

Throughout the process, don’t be afraid to make changes. If something isn’t working, feel free to swap it for another path or series of steps. Your goal doesn’t have to be set in stone. Reevaluate regularly to ensure that you’re still on the right track and decide if the components are working for you.

Learn Something New

Career improvement is also about self-improvement. Give yourself a chance to learn something new. Read books, take a class, explore new things. Learning new things helps keep your mind fresh and active, and that will help you when you need to come up with new solutions to various problems you encounter along the way.
