Brainstorming and coming up with new ideas is essential for any company that wants to stay current and get ahead of the competition. If you stick with the old way of doing things and never adapt, you are not going to be up-to-date.

So, where are these new ideas going to come from? Your employees, of course. No matter how innovative you might be as a thinker, you are always going to have a greater pool of ideas if you include your employees in a brainstorming session. Creating a culture of innovation is essential if you want your company to succeed in the long run.

Letting People Down Easy

You want to encourage your employees to come up with fresh new ideas and be creative. However, not all ideas are created the same. And sometimes, a person might put a lot of effort into one idea and get attached to it, but that idea might not be viable after all. How do you let someone down when they have put a lot of effort into coming up with a project model or a presentation? How do you tell them that their idea for this project or presentation just isn’t going to work?

The best way to handle this situation is to give them some suggestions and request that they start working on a different idea right away—something that seems more viable. This will keep the employee busy and will help them realize that their hard work is valued and needed.

Sometimes, even when circumstances are going well, your team might feel fatigued and disheartened. Maybe the project that has been assigned to them is taking too long, or maybe they are just not sure how the project or idea is going to be perceived. How do you get their enthusiasm levels up and motivate them to keep going? Here are some ideas you can use to rejuvenate your employees:

  • Ask your employees to take a break from what they are working on and try something new. Let them clear their minds and come back to the project later. 
  • Take everyone out for lunch. Sometimes getting away from the office and thinking about other matters can help people get back on track with a fresh eye.
  • Be a good role model. Keep yourself motivated. Your team will follow your lead.
  • Encourage wellness among your employees by providing free yoga or meditation classes. A healthy, relaxed employee is likely to be much more productive.
